]]> Comment on Audio Book Narrators by Dennis Donnelly http://www.nowinaudio.com/audio-book-narrators/#comment-294 Dennis Donnelly Sun, 23 Mar 2008 01:19:57 +0000 http://www.nowinaudio.com/audio-book-narrators/#comment-294 I could not agree more, and post comments about my favorite narrators' performances from books I have listened to this year: Ian McKellen reading Fagles translation of Homer’s Odyssey with all the high seriousness and epic tonal qualities it deserves; Sissy Spacek capturing the slow southern tones of The South and embodying Scout’s coming of age In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird; Frank Mccourt’s own lovely lilting Irish reading of his own Teacher Man ; Jonathan Davis’s fabulous multi voiced reading of Carlos Luis Zafon’s The Shadow of The Wind; Davis’s Castillian accent is flawless for the Spanish place names and its cadence carries into the excellent English translation. Next to Jim Dale’s Harry Potter readings, I found this one of the most satisfying and captivating renditions of multiple different character voices by a single narrator. Jim Dale’s reading of all of The Harry Potter books, justly and fittingly praised elsewhere. Donald Sutherland’s reading of Hemmingway’s The Old Man and The Sea with just the right Dragnet like directness which may make you appreciate Hemmingway’s style more than when you read it yourself. I could not agree more, and post comments about my favorite narrators’ performances from books I have listened to this year:
