Yes, more free audio books, LiteralSystems.org offers free audio books for your personal enjoyment and we do hope you enjoy them. Schools are also welcome to make these audio books available to their students provided there is no charge associated with access to them.

Just in time for Christmas Henning Hoffmann added music to this release of The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen. Special thanks to Henning. And in the way of Christmas stories they also have the previously released The Gift of the Magi by O Henry.

I think you'll find most of the 36 human narrated titles now available of better quality than most free sites offer due to the fact that they work mostly with paid narrators.

1000 Free Public Domain Audio Books

Our congratulations go out to LibriVox on the release of their 1,000th public domain audio book. We first told you about LibriVox in January of this year. You can review that post here. Since than they show no signs of slowing down. Their mission is to record and freely distribute as many public domain audio books as possible with the help of volunteer narrators.

LibriVox.org was established in August of 2005…Thirteen people collaborated to make the first recording, Joseph Conrad’s Secret Agent and just over two years later the free audio book project has just cataloged its 1,000th book: Murders in the Rue Morgue, by Edgar Allan Poe (read by Reynard T. Fox).

With the help of many volunteers LibriVox is now putting out 60-70 books a month, and their catalog includes Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Moby Dick, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Einstein’s Relativity: The Special and General Theory, Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason. They have recorded in 21 languages, and about half of their titles are narrated by one reader and the other half are collaborations among many readers.
